BuddyPress is made up of individual component plugins. The only required items are the core component and at least one member theme.

Extended profiles gives users the opportunity to describe themselves using custom profile fields created by the site administrator. [ zip | tar.gz ]
The private messaging component allows site members to send private messages to one or more friends in a conversational message thread style. [ zip | tar.gz ]
The friends component allows site members to make friend connections with other members. [ zip | tar.gz ]
The groups component allows site members to make and join groups to discuss a specific topic. [ zip | tar.gz ]
The wire component allows a comment stream on any content within BuddyPress. [ zip | tar.gz ]
The activity streams component provides functionality to record, track and display any user activity within a BuddyPress installation. [ zip | tar.gz ]
The blogs component allows the search and aggregation of blogs, posts and comments for any site member. [ zip | tar.gz ]
The forums component allows the attachment of a bbPress forum to any BuddyPress component. Currently the groups component uses the forums component to provide group discussion forums. This component requires bbPress 1.0a4 and WPMU 2.7. [ zip | tar.gz ]
The default member theme is used to display anything relating to a user, including their profile. Install in /wp-content/member-themes/ [ zip | tar.gz ]
The default home theme is a widget framework that makes it simple to display BuddyPress site aggregation widgets. It is not required as BuddyPress widgets will work on any widget enabled WordPress theme. [ zip | tar.gz ]
